Renewable Energy Tax Associate

Location: Houston, Texas

A prominent Am Law 200 firm is seeking a Tax Associate Attorney with 1-4 years of experience to join their Tax & Employee Benefits Department in Houston. This team provides assistance to a diverse clientele, including businesses and high-net-worth individuals, in areas such as business tax, employee benefits, executive compensation, and private wealth services. Key partners leverage their experience as former stakeholders and government officials who helped shape the very laws and policies they navigate daily on behalf of their clients.

The Associate will collaborate with experienced transactional tax lawyers and contribute to a wide range of sophisticated tax matters. The firm represents individuals, corporations, non-profit organizations, and other business entities in tax audits at the federal, state, and local levels. They also regularly represent clients before various tax authorities and courts, including U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, federal district courts, and federal courts of appeals. 

The Associate will focus on assisting clients with tax issues related to renewable energy transactions, including:

• Tax credit qualification.
• 'Begin construction' requirements.
• Prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements under Code Sections 45 and 48.
• Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions.
• Tax equity transactions.
• Tax credit transfers.
• Joint ventures.

Requirements:

• J.D. degree and admission to the Texas Bar.
• 1-4 years of experience with tax credit transactions, tax credit transfers, tax equity financings, and tax opinion letters.
• Excellent academic credentials.
• LL.M. in Taxation is preferred.
